Hawthorn Medical Centre

Excellent staff and good doctors very pleased big thumbs up to all the staff and doctors

If you understand the stress the NHS is under, you can see that the staff are trying their best to get people seen. I have had no problems with the staff here and find that if you speak to them instead of shouting and demanding appointments it makes the process easier. There are other ways to get urgent care if you cannot get in at the GP. Carfax is a valid option, and although there is a wait, you will still be seen by a medical professional, and there is a child clinic at Moredon that can see a sick child. If you ever watch the news you will see the crisis the NHS is in, and the demand for appointments is higher than ever with GP's surgeries having over 10,000 patients and so few GP's. A lot of blame goes on individual surgeries, but it is a problem for surgeries all over the country and people need to realise that! I am pleased with the service my family has received at the surgery and have not had any problems in the 8 years I have been a patient there. The only reason I don't give 5 stars is the pharmacy in the surgery, There is sometimes a queue there, and at reception, so can get a bit chaotic.

Abbey Meads Medical Practice

Abbeymeads Village Centre, Elstree Way, Swindon SN25 4YZ, UK – 01793 706030

Dr Hawkins, Dr Ochoa absolute credit to the profession. A delightful practice with some great Drs - live savers and a credit to the NHS. Agree with other comments the appointment system is awful, expecting patients who are unwell to wake up at a certain time, get to a phone and be on hold for an appointment is really not a solution that works at all. This needs reviewing urgently. As for the locums, very much agree with other post, but this may be recourses. Receptionists are good, and candour of 99% of the Drs is first class... WHEN... and IF... you can see one.

Appointments can only be booked on the day for the limited number of appointments free. They use a lot of locums so quality of advice can vary. Receptionist can usually get a doctor or nurse to call back with telephone advice where appropriate.

Local hospitals - community hospitals and hospitals with A&E departments for SN2 5DU.

The new NHS website below is very well worth a look. Hospitals are not only listed but evaluated. I certainly know which ones I would go to! At the very least you will know what questions to ask if you are sent to one which has not entered its data. Good luck!
