The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

Highworth Rd, Swindon SN3 4QS, UK – 01793 823962

We now have a Family History Centre which is open on Thursday mornings (9.30 to 12) each week. All are welcome to visit. We have computers which give free access to premium family history software and websites that generally charge for subscriptions, together with friendly staff who can help with any queries.

Visitors are always very welcome. There are 3 different meetings with 10 minute breaks between each. The meetings include a Sunday School with classes for all ages and a chance to discuss the gospel. There is also a worship meeting in which all gather together to sing hymns and listen to talks or to people sharing their testimony of the Saviour and experiences of how the gospel has made a difference in their life.

Bath Road Methodist Church

16 A4289 Rd, Swindon SN1 4, UK – 01793 529263

Very nice gothic building

The chapel was built in 1880, at a total cost of £5631. By 1890, Swindon was able to pride itself on having the largest Railway Engineering works in the world. For the next 100 years this impressive suite of Methodist buildings provided the base for the work, worship and witness of its congregation in the Old Town neighbourhood, and throughout the whole borough. Radical changes in railway engineering and production methods heralded the end of the era of the vast railway workshops. A successful civic drive attracted many new employers to Swindon, and the rapid expansion of the town challenged the Christian denominations to plan and act ecumenically together. In 1969, Bath Road committed themselves to work closely with Immanuel United Reformed Church and Christ Church with St Mary’s and from this the Old Town Ecumenical Parish was born. Following Bath Road’s centenary celebrations in 1980, the congregation embarked on a £350,000 scheme to transform the whole of the church internally, with the emphasis on accessibility for the handicapped, and flexibility for the buildings to be used in all kinds of different ways to serve both church and surrounding community. The rest of the site incorporated 23 sheltered flats with warden cover. To this lively church community you can be assured of a warm welcome. The following pages will give you some idea of it’s place within the Swindon and Marlborough Methodist Circuit, and of its many sided activities.
